I stay at home for 1 year officially.
I haven't go outside my house's gate for 1 year.
I haven't ridden any means of transportation for 1 year.
From 11 March 2020 to 11 March 2021, it is officially one year. But I haven't go out of my home yet until this time.
A lot of people asked me.
Are you seriously not get out of your house?
Not even a walk around your neighborhood or go to minimarket?
How do you get enough sun?
How's your family react? Do they also stay at home fully?
How do you buy groceries or fulfill your needs?
Aren't you bored?
How to manage temptation not to get out?
So I'm gonna answer those questions one by one
Are you seriously not get out of your house?
Yes, I'm serious. The furthest go was opening my house's gate to give a document to a Grab driver so he can deliver that to the company where I work.
Not even a walk around your neighborhood or go to minimarket?
No, nope. I just walk around my house. Also, do some workouts at home.
How do you get enough sun?
I still got the sun, FYI. My room is half window half wall, so I even close the curtain sometimes because it is too bright and too hot. I also get the sun at my house terrace.
And people often called the city I live in as 'a rehearsal for hell', because it is very famous for the hot sun. So, no, definitely not sun deficit.
How's your family react? Do they also stay at home fully?
My family went from asking me to go out and sunbathing to encouraging me to keep my record for at least a year.
No one in my family stays at home fully like me. My sister needs to go to her office at least a few times a week. My parents sometimes have to go out for urgent business. Others occasionally go to the minimarket to buy stuff. They also like to do a walk around the neighborhood for exercise and as a means of recreation.
How do you buy groceries or fulfill your needs?
My family buys groceries from a seller that can send all the orders through ojek. I buy the specific food I want through Sayurbox, a mobile app to buy groceries online. When I need some snacks, I just buy them through Klik Indomaret, a mobile app to buy from the nearest minimarket. The deliverymen usually already know that they just need to put the packages in front of our door, so never had any problems with that.
I had to send few packages when I sold my stuff online, so I just ask my family whenever they go out to drop the packages at the delivery service stall every time.
Aren't you bored?
Not really.
My life before the pandemic was pretty boring anyway. I just go to work every day on weekdays, and then go back home. On weekends, I would just chill in my room, doing some projects, or just passively consume entertainment. I just had some long breaks where I go on a long holiday or watching concerts when my favorite singer comes to my country. And in this pandemic, we can't go on holiday or watch a concert anyway. So my favorite outside activities have pretty much vanished.
At home, I did a lot of stuff actually.
I like to do art projects. So drawing, wood whittling, paper crafting, journalling, calligraphy making, song-making. And many more...
I read books. I read 42 books in total last year, over accomplish my goal of reading 10 books last year.
I exercise. I have some favorite fitness youtube channels that I could follow every day.
I cook all my food.
I watch videos. So many videos and my interest just changing every few weeks, so new content every time.
I enjoy entertainment. So I listen to lots of good music, listen to the radio, watch online concerts, and many more,
I work from home every day. So that takes up most of my time in a day. Sadly, but that's life.
I also teach kids on the side. As a side job, I teach kids the Korean language/culture online.
I also update my online shop from time to time, uploading new drawings, etc.
I play with my nephew.
And many more.
I'm used to the idea of having fun by myself, so it's never a problem for me.
How to manage temptation not to get out?
There is no real temptation for me.
My job pretty much makes sense to just work from home in this pandemic situation. And after doing it for a year, it just makes sense, we don't even need to go to the office actually and I've never been this happy to work.
As mentioned, the city I live in is really really hot outside. And I hate hot weather. Bless me for living in Indonesia.
Besides, I also do a low-buy challenge last year and a no-buy challenge this year, so staying at home is just a good combination of what I want to accomplish.
My family also pretty strict when it comes to health protocols. So everyone needs to take a shower and wash the clothes immediately after they go out even for a really short occasion or no contact with people.
So I would want to avoid any risk now, so even if I go out, I would probably be busy bringing all the spare masks, hand sanitizer, soap, water bottle, tissue, wet tissue, etc, and thinking about all those just makes me lose the appetite to go out. There is so much of an inconvenience that I would have to face if I want to go out, so it's even more tempting to just stay at home till all of this pandemic over or the world is over, whichever comes first.
The things that I missed are watching a concert, and go on a long holiday trip, which is impossible to be done in this pandemic. So there is no real reason for me...to go out.
Well.
Actually, at first, I didn't have any intention to make this a thing. I just happened to never go out. When I first quarantined, the first 3 months just gone by like that so easily without me ever have the need to go out, so I thought "hmmm...maybe I could take this even longer". So I continued to just stay home, and then after like 8 months or something, I was like "can I keep it for at least one year? yeah maybe, let's try" and it's just happened. When it became a kind of a competition with myself, I become a little bit more obsessed with it, like I would think of some scenarios that would require me to go out, and then I would think about the ways I can do it without going out. Haha.
And now that it has been a year without going out..it's just a default mode for me. No need to go out if I don't have something to do outside anyway.
This is why I haven't go out even after the 'goal' of 1 year staying at home is reached. Maybe I will go out soon.
