What's up, blog. It's me again, always, and forever me.
This year, as I mentioned before, is my no-buy year. Means I can't buy unnecessary things that are outside my allowed-to-buy list (which just cover essentials basically). But you know, as a human being in this modern world that is exposed to thousands of marketing every day, I got so many temptations along the way.
For example. Recently just for fun, I plan my dream trips. So I researched all the places I want to visit, the transportation, food I want to eat even the accommodation, and many more. It helps me a lot in giving consolation in the mid of uncertainty of when we can travel around comfortably again. I explored google maps, look at the street view of my destination, and plan the things I want to do.
Then it comes down to think about what should I pack for that dream trip. So I list what I want to bring, and then of course go into a hole of wanting-to-buy-something-for-the-trip-so-my-trip-feels-better. I looked into instant hijab (I'm planning to go on a long train trip, so I think I need it -I don't have one currently btw), compression socks (oh it'll help with sore leg they say), sandals (I don't have sandal, believe it or not, my old sandal was left in the office before the pandemic and I don't know what happened to it), and many more. I was also thinking to not bring a camera to the trip cause I don't want to have so many things to take care of, so I thought 'hah my phone's camera should be good for the trip then, in case I want to take pics'. So I thought it won't be a problem to look around at the items I want to buy later for the trip now, while I might buy them only when the pandemic ends and I can travel.
I watched tons of smartphone reviews that have a good camera, with the purpose to buy them later when I want to go for the trip. HAHAHAHAH. But then my consciousness helped me to realize that...yeah to buy something new is just temporary excitement, which might lead to dissatisfaction when something comes up. And I look again, come on, my smartphone works well. It's working great. I know the camera is not that great, but, do I really need a great camera?? for me?? for someone who only keeps the taken pictures on her google photos account for memories?? The answer is crystal clear.
But to freshen things up and to satisfy my consumptive self (lol) I decided to 'touch up' my smartphone. So I can feel it as a newer smartphone. to get that excitement without buying unnecessarily.
So I delete unused apps, documents, downloads, etc. I usually do cleanup on my phone every once in a while, but this time, I give no excuses and delete all of it. Then it was time for the gallery. All of the photos taken by the camera are backed up automatically, so I have no worry to delete them. The problem was with.........albums filled with thousands of pictures of my fav artist. I have this habit of keeping the pictures I like, most of them will be related to my favorite musician. In the old times, I kept them on my laptop, but recently I keep them on my phone. So you can imagine how many pictures I saved. Thousands. I never realize it until... I decided to clean them up. I hesitated a lot to delete them, cause a lot of it was super hard to find (but it’s the internet, you can always find it, besides, do I really see those pics daily?? Nope). It was devastating, cause I know I kept a lot of them to draw them later...I like the pose, the colors, so I intended to use them as a reference, but I just never did lol. So yeah..this time I give no mercy. And delete them all. Yeah. Fiuhh...it's a huge relief actually...
And then, I changed the phone launcher, to make it unfamiliar for me. On the outside, I change the stickers on my phone case (don't worry, I have lots of sticker collections lol).
As I said before, my smartphone doesn't have a great camera. But I know the hardware part is good, it's just the internal process to making the photo is not really good (that's the knowledge I obtained after watching smartphone reviews, so it was definitely useful). So I download a google camera. And then boom...the quality just improved soooo much. bravo!! bravo!!!
This is just one of the examples of the basic difference between the default cam and the new one. I don't know it you can see it, but anyway, at least for me, it is different and for the better!
Before
After
and that is how I get a new phone without buying it. Yaha
