My Not-to-Buy List

Since December 2019, I made my own not-to-buy list.

I made this after getting tired of making decisions over and over again whether I should buy something, or if some items tempt me to buy and then I will have this constant conversation and negotiation with myself, when I know the decision would be ‘don’t buy that’. The other reason is also when I tidying up my room and declutter some items i do not use, I somehow..always ended up throwing away the same things. I also noticed that I have too many of the same items.

So then I decided to make my own not-to-buy list, to prevent future me to buy this things that I will not use or i will hate or I already have, and to prevent me constantly questioning whether I should buy an item or not when i know my conclusion will be the same.

  1. Nail polish

I always had nail polish, and but i just don’t use them that often before they started to thickened and hard and can’t be used. But whenever i see ‘my color’ in nail polish, i just had the urge to have them, and intend to wear them. But actually i don’t wear them that often and i always ended up giving it to my sisters.

  1. Physical book

I like reading book, but also not that crazy about it. And I also don’t have storage for that, they collect dust, and i hate dust. I only keep some books that is related to my work that I already have before. Now, i just read digitally. It is also easier to look back at the book I've read if I want to recall some points.

  1. Album

This is the big dilemma every single time. So i like a lot of singers and i used to buy their albums, and my friend will also give me. It used to be fun, because i utilized the album to the fullest. for example, my Infinite album, i put up the poster until it was ruined, brought the cd everywhere, keep it in the car, and listen to it on our family trip few years ago. It was great because we have the cd player! Ha! And now i don’t have cd player, so buying the album means that i will admire the album, the pictures, and will never play the cd, and it will sit forever inside my drawer. They just become too precious to use?or to enjoy, that i don’t think buying an album now adds value to my life anymore like it was before. But whenever my favorite artist release new albums, i just had this constant battle whether to buy or not and i’m tired of it. So i put album in this list, so i don’t have to make ‘decision’ every time the new album come out.

  1. Keyring

I stopped buying them since forever though, but for some reason they just exist and it is a lot of them. I just put it in this list to remind me that I have enough to use for key (if i need one) and also...to not receive any keyring, even when it is free.

  1. Tote bag

Tote bag is such an easy buy actually. If the design is cute, or i like the character, or just as souvenir, it is so easy to buy tote bag. And I have a lot of them, ugh. I don’t think I need more tote bag for another 30 years.

  1. New electronic device

Put it here because it is just so tempting when i see ads, or whatever. I suddenly feel that the electronic device is essential and i need them, when in fact i don’t. Just put it here as a reminder, and i will not add more variety of electronic device in my life, i will just replace the one i have now if it is broken.

  1. Plates and mugs

Because nicely designed plates and mugs are just the cutest, they make my head hurts because i keep on thinking to buy them, but i don’t want to because i don’t need them.

  1. Notebook

Recently i don’t write on my notebook that much, and I have some notebooks that are still empty. It is just the same case with tote bag. It was like, you never have too many notebook, when in fact it can be too many. So I will not buy them again. I will use up the remaining empty notebook i have and will probably not buy them in the future.

  1. Colorful and flavored drinks

I already have this in the list since early 2019 i guess. I just don’t buy colorful drinks and flavored drinks to be healthy and to control unnecessary small-but-adds-up spendings.

  1. Plushies

I don’t buy them normally. But, sometimes, you know, as souvenirs, merchandise, they can be very easy to buy, and they don’t have any function. At all. happened before, sold it, don’t want to deal with it anymore.

  1. Art and craft supplies

I’m just guilty of this one because i still have a lot, but i always have the tendency to explore new ones. And a lot of my supplies are not used to the fullest, so I’m going to use them up! And not gonna buy more supplies, especially since I draw digitally most of the time lately.

  1. Non necessities skin care

Actually I love skincare, i enjoy using them, but at some point i feel like there are too many new products to add to the skincare routine, and i’m not sure if it is necessary or not because looking at the review won’t help actually. Some people will find it helpful, some people won’t, and you ended up buying it to try yourself, and yea...that is the beginning of too many products. Now i’m just using up my skincare, and if they are finished, I will just maintain cleanser, moisturizer and sunscreen. I do find some of the products really nice, but I just don’t have any interest anymore to take more care than necessary for my skin.

  1. Souvenirs/decoration

It is just useless and collecting dust. And I hate dust (I’m just repeating myself now)

  1. Jewelry

Oh i love buying jewelry or accessories because it was fun. But i just don’t want to deal with it anymore. It is just an hassle to take them off and wash my hands etc, and i don’t see the need to buy more of them.

  1. Pin and brooches

At one point i had some pins and brooches and I became obsessed to collect more whenever i go somewhere (use them as memento). I just don’t want to be trapped in collecting mode anymore. And some pins and brooches just sit inside the box, because i’m afraid to lose them if i put it on my bag. Definitely not a healthy relationship with stuff, lol.

  1. Storage stuff

I don’t want to give more possibility to store unnecessary items by having more storage.

  1. Bread

Why do i put this in my list? Oh because i don’t want to spend money on bread lol. If i want one i will just make it (which is very rare). Most of the time when I eat bread, it was just because of temptation to buy them, they just taste the same, sweet or salty, just the same thing, maybe with little variation, but still just.....like that for me.

  1. Chips

I haven’t buy chips for idk....oh i bought chips but mostly happened when i’m with my friends. But individually...I don’t buy them.

  1. Stationary

Same reason with my art and craft supplies. Lots of pens to survive the next 10 years.

  1. Bookmark

As i don’t buy physical book, no need to have more bookmark.

  1. Refill disposable wipes

I have the cloth for my mop now that I can reuse all the time, so I don’t need more disposable wipes. It is so easy to buy as well, and very convenient, so i need to put it in this list just to remind myself.

  1. Socks

I’m a socks hoarder. Since...forever. I just like socks, and it is so easy to buy them. Because they are cute. And now i have too many. And I just resist myself from buying more, because i don’t need more socks. (But they are very cute!!! Too many cute design in this world T.T) yes, I don’t need new socks. I should just wear up my existing socks. (After that, I’m free to buy more socks, lol).

So yeah those are my not-to-buy list, they are always updated, to help my brain not to be overworked by making decisions all the time.
